Subject: Leave Donation for Kathleen Kim
As most are aware, Kathleen Kim, a Trademark
attorney in LO 101, has been caring
for her young daughter, Emily, who is fighting a
tough battle against Leukemia.
Thanks to your generous support, Kathleen and
her family have been able to make ends meet thus far. However, they need
your help once again, to continue Emily's fight for survival.
Emily has spent the summer in treatment
(including her 7th birthday, on August 16th) awaiting an urgently needed
match for a bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, they were unable to
find a perfect match as a donor (6 out of 6 match). However, they have
found a 4 out of 6 cord blood match.
Although it is best to have a perfect match for
a bone marrow transplant (to decrease the chance of complications
following the transplant), Emily's parents have decided to proceed with
the 4 out of 6 cord blood match for the transplant. They will be taking
Emily to Duke University's Bone Marrow Transplant Center in North
Carolina, one of the top institutions in the country for this type of
procedure.
Despite the excellence of the center, Emily's
chance for survival is only 40-50%. The family will leave for North
Carolina tomorrow so that Emily can begin testing and total body radiation
at Duke. They expect the transplant to take place towards the end of
September. Emily must be in N.C. for a minimum of four months, but will
probably be there much longer. Kathleen will be living in the hospital
room with Emily.
Please consider helping Emily and her family by
donating leave time to her mother Kathleen.
A
